Henley Highlights #3

We continue our series on some of our past HRR crews with a mashup of the crews that competed in the Men's Quads in the early 2000s. "The Quads of the Early Naughties: The Sydney Summer Olympics of 2000, where we saw Sir Steve Redgrave making Olympic history was also a turning point for BUBC. The club was now a regular at HRR, and the early noughties saw huge growth at the Club. The Club was fortunate enough to source one of the shells used by Redgrave and his crew at the Olympics. With an influx of sculling talent, our 2001 HRR Crew (Ed Baker, Ian McCaig, Will King & Dylan Samuel) competed in the Quad Sculls event, unfortunately drawing and losing to Leander in the first round. The crew was coached by Tracy Duncan, who had herself rowed for Canada at Sydney 2000. The following year, 2002, again saw BUBC enter the Quad Sculls events (Ed Baker, Ian McCaig and Peter James rowing in a composite with Miles Shepherd from Marlow) unfortunately losing to Tideway Scullers on Thursday. In 2003, the Quad of (Hugh McCaffrey, Peter James, Henry Kelly and Joseph Tarquin Davidson Merritt) lost to an Auriol Kensington & Vesta Composite on Thursday."
